--- Who can obtain an athletic scholarship ? ---

  • Tennis players (girls and boys) of national and club level.
  • High-School students (last year of H-S, 12th grade) and university students
  • There is no age limit

---The Team ---

Usually, 8 players are part of the tennis team. They all participate in team practices and travel to away matches. During “dual matches” (university against university), there are 6 singles and 3 doubles.

In most universities, the team’s staff is composed of:

  • The “Head Coach”
  • 1 or 2 assistant-coaches
  • 1 fitness coach
  • 1 trainer (physical therapist)
  • 1 doctor

--- The Season / Calendar ---

The tennis season is composed of 2 parts:

  • September-December (Fall): individual tournaments and practice

  • January-May (Spring): Dual-matches season (team matches university against university)

The Fall season is composed of intense practicing with some individual tournaments in order to get ready for the Spring season and dual matches, which is most important to the school.

--- Practices ---

Usually, practices occur in the afternoons. Their length and intensity depend on the team level and the Head Coaches routine. On average, teams practice 3 hours a day; composed of individual workouts, drilling, match situations and fitness.

--- Road Trips ---

Teams travel by private bus or by plane, depending upon the distance. Generally, they travel the day before the competition and stay in high-quality hotels. While traveling, all expenses (hotel and food) are paid by the university, in addition to the existing scholarship.

Tyler Community College, Texas

"I live on campus and it feels comfortable because I am surrounded by thousands of students! I go to class in the mornings and the afternoons are reserved for practices and review. Compared to France, there are fewer classes but there are more specific depending on the major you want to do. The student-professor relation is very cool and open as the teachers are always ready to help their students.

Thanks to the computers available on campus (internet) and the phone-line in my room, I can always keep in touch with my friends and family. Here I learn to be even more independent than before. I learn a lot about life and about myself. I am having a great experience and I think it’s worth it.

Take care !"

"I arrived in the US with the will to discover many things beyond tennis and english, mostly a new culture. What I lived over there has been wonderful but also difficult sometimes. At first everything was new, big and pretty. After a while, once my english got better, I realized that there was an important cultural gap. In fact, I also came for this, to open up my mind. It took me two months to adapt myself completely. Once we started the matches with a lot of road trips, new landscapes, new people…it was incredible!

I made plenty of friends: Americans as well as foreigners from all continents. US universities are appealing because of the international atmosphere that there is. I tried to go to the states by myself but it is very difficult to obtain an important scholarship; all the paperwork is also complicated. L-Z Sport was a good solution for me.

"On the WTA Tour, I know a lot of girls who played in the NCAA tennis championship, which shows that american universities can be a lift to succeed as a professional tennis player.

As for me, I’m happy to do this job but I would have liked to study further so I think it’s great to be able to do both without sacrificing your hopes for athletic success. That’s why I support L-Z Sport and encourage them in their approach."

"I think the american experience is very rich. It’s incredible all the advantages we have as athletes. L-Z Sport negotiated a big scholarship for me. It covers all my spendings: studies, practices, apartment, food, racquets and sports clothes. The university is phenomenal both academically and athletically! Moreover, medical care is well done, nothing is left aside.

I also get the chance to have a very good coach who makes her players improve. We practice at least 3 hours a day with weight lifting twice a week. The coach is strict and severe but she handles our practices intelligently. In 2004 we won our Conference Championship. Since then, I can’t wait for the 2005 season to begin.

L-Z Sport was in charge of my case and found me a superb university that corresponded to what I was looking for. All the negotiations were done rapidly even though I had signed with them at the last minute. L-Z Sport has shown quickness and capability, and I also appreciate how they listened to my parents. Finally, when I have a doubt about something I send them an email and they help me out as best they can."

Mississippi State University

"It’s been more than ten years that I play tennis tournaments. I’ve had good results in the past. I was one of the best national player in my age group. I was chosen to play the Davis Cup with Serbia but I was not convinced to play professional tennis. I wasn’t improving any more as a player and I couldn’t finish my high school. That’s when I thought about going to the United States, it seemed to be a good alternative to conciliate tennis and school. I was stressed at first cause it was very important to find a good coach with good practice conditions. I heard about L-Z Sport, I talked to them and told them what I was looking for. They got me a full scholarship (100%) at Mississippi State University where I’m quite satisfied. I have a coach of high level who gives his everything to work with me and to help me become the best player I could be.

We practice hard and very seriously. We also have an assistant coach, a conditioning coach and a trainer as well. On top of tennis I can obtain an education and a university diploma. Even if I don’t make it in tennis, I will always have the opportunity to pursue a career in the field in which I study.

The rythme of life is tough but so good at the same time. Athletes are respected and almost treated like stars. Professors, students and all the people that follow college sports are always there to support us."

"The american life gives me a unique opportunity to study in a good university, play competitive tennis, and live an enriching experience abroad. Going to morning classes with friends, playing tennis with teammates in the afternoons, coming back in YOUR house at night, traveling to play the championship against other universities or playing “at home”, is guaranteed to be filled up with emotions! That’s life!! We learn a lot about ourselves, we’re getting more responsible and mature, and we learn english, all of this in the warm and welcoming atmosphere of an american campus.

Thanks you L-Z Sport!"

Indiana State University

"I was looking for high level tennis facilities, a good coaching staff, and a reknown academic program. L-Z Sport was able to satisfy my demands with success! I have an ideal staff who helps me improve technically, physically and mentally.

The campus gives me an opportunity to meet people from different countries, which is very rich. We have great academic support as we always have someone to help and guide us in case of difficulties. The university created a weekly mandatory homework system for us to work and be helped with any subject.

Here everybody is very open minded and try to help the foreigners especially if you are an athlete competing for the university. Matches and practices take place in a different atmosphere than France…it’s something to live!

I would recommend L-Z Sport for couple reasons: their reliability, their perfect knowledge about the complexity of the rules in the USA (even our coach was surprised), and their capacity to listen as they try hard to get exactly what we would like."
