Opening Up to the World
Every year, around 600,000 young people from all over the world travel
to the United States for educational purposes. Many of them attest
that the years they spend studying in the USA are the best of their
lives. Most of the time is spent on the campuses, students cohabitate
with the other 20,000 of their peers that are 18 to 25-years old.
The atmosphere on campus is very special; everything is within easy
reach; life is very fast with many different daily activities. The
whole life of a student-athlete goes on right there on campus: attending
classes, sports practices, home games, going out with friends during
leisure time… Studying in America represents for many a way
of opening up to the world – the world of new, very different,
and complex cultures. One explores a very practical way of life,
in most cases, completely different from what the student had experienced
before his or her arrival to the US.
It is most certain that the everyday communication, the exchanges
of opinion and the socializing with peers of all these different
races, cultures and habits will enrich anybody who is exposed to
them. Personal growth and maturity as consequences of living in
these special places are almost guaranteed. At American colleges
and universities, everything is focused on the student’s success.
There are excellent conditions to motivate, or even force the student
to graduate on time. On the other hand, a student has all the means
on his or her disposal to spend very pleasurable and fun four years
at a university campus. All of that, of course, makes for some indispensable
memories.
Life on Campus
Students live close by to the university campus. Therefore, they spend very little time commuting to class and to practice. Largest campuses may have a student body that is larger than 50,000 while the smallest of those can count three or four thousand students. The campuses consist of modern dormitories or residence halls, and, along with many different classrooms and laboratories, they also have large computer rooms where all the most modern technological advances are at the students’ disposal 24/7. They also include state-of-the-art sport arenas and gyms for soccer, basketball, weight lifting, swimming pools, tennis courts etc.
Not too many places outside of the United States give students
ways like these in order to meet all their needs in one place, right
on campus. So, it is not by chance that the largest percentage
of students finish their studies on time, but also, that they spend
some of the most memorable years of their lives while studying in
the United States!
